Stunning Shamanic Rattle with Witches Knot, Amber, Rosemary and Birch wood handle handcrafted by us in our rural workshop. The bowl of this rattle is hand sewn and filled with Amber for abundance and protection and Rosemary for protection and grounding. We have painted a Witches Knot on one side and a protection sigil on the other. The handle is made from a beautiful piece of locally found Birch wood.
Birch has a very female energy and is considered to be a Goddess tree, the symbol of summer ever-returning. Known as the “giving tree” birch contains the essence of truth and birth.
Birch gives the essence of truth and in Druid and Celtic mythologies Birch is valued as the tree of inception and beginnings. Birch is also a wood with great powers to purify and discipline. It is is associated with the element of water and is a tree of the sun and the planet Venus. Birch is a sacred Celtic tree and governs the time from 24th December to 20th January. It is one of the first trees to naturally establish in cleared forests and the Druids associated this wood with the white stag.
Birch being a sacred Celtic tree we have also burnt the Birch Ogham (beith) onto the piece for added protection and energy.
The Witches Knot also known as the Magic Knot is a powerful feminine charm and symbol of protection against curses and hexes. Our ancient sisters were well versed in the craft of knots using them to tie up the weather, create circles of protection and to bind things magically. There is more symbolism in this seemingly simple knot than first meets the eye.
The symbol features four inter-laced vesica piscis (the mathematical shape formed by the intersection of two disks with the same radius, intersecting in such a way that the center of each disk lies on the perimeter of the other, most commonly seen in the Flower of Life symbol) The vesica piscis is a world-wide symbol for the yoni, the feminine creative force that gave birth to the universe. The interlacement represents the feminine control of the forces of nature. The circle is one of the primary female symbols representing the sacred or consecrated space and the spirals form the sign of the serpent, the oldest symbol of female energy, the embodiment of enlightenment and wisdom. This combination of cogent symbols makes the Witches Knot a potent representation of female might and power!
We have added a fern spiral to the handle and finished with a little of our homemade lavender, beeswax and olive oil polish for protection, recycled leather fringe trim, cruelty free naturally molted feathers and vintage beads. Approx 36cm / 14.5" length.

We are very mindful to pay our respects to the animals spirit and ask for its blessing as it is reborn as a wonderful sacred object. Our rattles are made using goat hide which brings with it the spirit of this confident and balanced creature.
