This lovely altar amulet is crafted from Devon Rowan wood. We are blessed to be guardians of a small woodland in Devon and this piece is made from a tree which fell last year. It features a Celtic style Raven and would make a wonderful addition to your altar, meditation space or a gift. The piece has then been lightly waxed with our own natural beeswax, olive oil and lavender hand-blended wax and given a little polish. Approx size 18.5cm / 7.25".
The Rowan tree is often called 'Witchwood' and is long known for aid and protection against enchantment. It is also associated with divination, astral work, strength, initiation, healing, psychic energies, working with spirits of the dead, psychic powers, personal power, and success. Sticks of the Rowan were used to carve Runes on. It was also used in the art of metal divining. Rowan spays and crosses were placed over cattle in pens and over homes for protection. The berries also have a tiny pentagram on them. The Rowan tree indicates protection and control of the senses from enchantment and beguiling. The Rowan was sacred to the Druids and the Goddess Brigit. It is a very magical tree used for wands, rods, amulets and spells. A forked Rowan branch can help find water. Wands are for knowledge, locating metal and general divination wood from a fallen tree in a friends garden.
Rowan being a sacred Celtic tree we have also burnt the Ogham symbol for Rowan (luis) on the back for added strength and protection.
The Ravens symbolizes wisdom, affection, healing powers, longevity and fertility. It's jet black color represents the night, the great void, and even the Earth. Some believe the Raven was born of the primordial darkness whilst others believe that it brought forth the light. In Norse mythology, Huginn and Muninn are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world, Midgard, and bring information to the viking god Odin
