This lovely altar amulet is created from Devon Alder wood and features Moon Gazing Hares.
We are blessed to be guardians of a small woodland in Devon and this grid is made from English Alder from an old tree which went over last year. Alder Wood encourages journeys, self confidence, bravery, and spiritual growth. Alder was revered by our ancestors as being almost human as when alder is freshly cut the wood goes a deep red colour almost like blood! It is also the elementals tree and the green leaves and bark were traditionally used to dye fabrics green. The piece has then been lightly waxed with our own natural beeswax, olive oil and lavender hand-blended wax and given a little polish. Size approx 12.5cm / 4.75".
Alder being a sacred Celtic tree we have also burnt the Ogham symbol of fern on the back for extra energy and protection.
The hare symbolises connection to the goddess and earth energy as the hare has a very special place in the goddesses heart.
There is a story that the goddess held a party for all the animals and each one tried their best to find the most extravagant and expensive gift to give her. The poor hare didn't have anything, all he had in the world was a single egg, so he decided that he would have to take this. Every animal gathered at the party and took it in turns to present their gift to the goddess, all manner of wonderful and lavish items and she gracefully thanked them all. Lastly it was the hares turn, he felt very nervous and shyly walked up the goddess and presented her with his egg. The other creatures felt very sorry for him but the goddess was overjoyed and picked the hare up in her arms and declared him was the most beautiful and blessed creature of them all. You see he had given everything he had in the world without question and that showed his true love for the goddess.
