This stunning athame or ritual knife has been lovingly crafted from Devon Hawthorn wood and an upcycled vintage silver plated fish knife with a floral design. Ideal for rituals and ceremonial use or as decoration on your altar. Many people choose to use an athame instead of a wand for some ceremonies.
We are blessed to be guardians of a small woodland in Devon and this piece is made from a branch which fell last year. Hawthorn is a sacred tree of Celtic Astrology 13 May to 9 June. Considered sacred by the Celtic summer flower maiden Olwen, also associated with the owl. This tree is also sacred to Aquarius and the windlord Vashaan. It was often planted in the parameters of a cottage for protection. It is believed that fairies live in the hedges of Hawthorn especially if near ash or oak and it carries the energy of the element of Air
We were drawn to add jumping hares, a crescent moon and wildflower stems to amplify the light energy of the hawthorn. The Hare is a sacred symbol of the Goddess who loves the humble hare over all other creatures. The hare is also the symbol of spring and the returning light and fertility to the earth
The athame has then been lightly waxed with our own natural beeswax, olive oil and lavender hand-blended wax and given a little polish. Size approx length 23.5cm / 9.25".
